New investments, improving quality and reducing lead times
Innovation and continual improvement is a main priority at Nordisk and we are always looking for new ways to improve quality, increase efficiency, reduce lead times and generally offer a better all-round service to our customers. Fueled by the positive growth trend we are currently witnessing in both freight and commercial business units, we have recently made a number of improvements to our Norwegian production facilities.
In order to give us greater control over the entire manufacturing process, whilst simultaneously giving considerable quality and effectivity gains, we have invested in a number of new machines. A new gantry mill was installed in August. This is a 3-axis CNC milling machine for large sheet formats, which will be mainly used to perform machining on base-sheets, particularly the more complex base-assemblies found on forklift-able bases used, for example, in refrigerated containers. The machine can handle up to M-size formats and the investment will enable us to produce products more efficiently, with a consistent high quality and reduced lead time.
A new 5-axis machine was also installed in Holmestrand earlier this year. The machine is a recent development by German based Elumatec, which has been a well-known supplier to Nordisk for more than 25 years. Our main aim is to reduce lead time and improve internal logistics, thereby lowering production costs with this investment.
What does this mean for our customers?
Not only will we have greater control over the entire manufacturing process, by improving precision and the finish of the parts we manufacture, we will see a further increase in overall quality. This means any potential problems our customers experience during assembling will reduce. Improved precision will also mean fewer manufacturing problems, keeping deliveries on time and on spec.
